Japanese sporting goods giant Asics Corporation has successfully implemented a new product lifecycle management (PLM) solution, and is reporting enhanced speed, communication and efficiency following the roll-out.

The company, which designs and manufactures sporting goods including performance athletic footwear, apparel and accessories, is using Centric PLM.

"We knew that our PLM project would be challenging, due to the size and global nature of our operations as well as the sheer number of people involved," says Takahiro Mizumoto, manager, SCM Solution Team, Global IT Division for Asics Corporation.

The company has adopted the full suite of Centric PLM modules across its three brands: Asics, Onitsuka Tiger and Asics Tiger, and started managing all global products with materials during its first season on Centric PLM.

"We have already identified clear business benefits from the project," Mizumoto adds.

"Merchandising and Development can now collaborate in one system, making communication easier and more efficient. We are swiftly eliminating unnecessary repetitive operations, speeding up data analysis and improving the credibility and visibility of data.

"Asics has a global reach and Centric's system gives us a better grasp of our overall apparel, footwear and accessory business, including regional products.

"Communication with factories is already much better and we are finding it easier to manage information about sizes and costs. So many aspects of our business are faster, more consolidated and more efficient."
