Brazilian apparel department store chain Lojas Renner has invested in a PLM system to help meet its development goals, which include boosting product development cycles to reduce speed to market.

The company, which claims to be the largest fashion retailer in Brazil, has selected Centric Software's PLM software to improve collaboration in order to reduce time to market and achieve alignment across product development.

Incorporated in 1965, Lojas Renner owns three separate businesses: fashion retail brand Renner, specialised youth brand Youcom, and home and décor brand Camicado. It operates 512 stores across Brazil, an e-commerce channel and has recently expanded into neighbouring Uruguay.

"Lojas Renner is expanding and also collaborates with a sourcing office in Shanghai," says Henry Costa, product director at Lojas Renner. "Our core business challenges are related to faster product development cycles and digitalisation of processes.

"Before PLM, product development was done with a combination of Excel, Powerpoint, email and even instant messaging. There were too many issues with using these disparate systems and there are also differences in operations between the brands. Our main goal with PLM is to improve collaboration in order to reduce time to market and achieve alignment across product development."

Lojas Renner's investment sees the firm become Centric's first retail customer in Brazil.
