Some of the world’s largest apparel retailers including Macy’s, Kohl’s, American Eagle Outfitters and Pacific Sunwear are taking part in a special committee to establish standards to support the design of private label and branded merchandise.

The PLM for Retail Standards Committee has been set up by TradeStone Software to create standards for codes, information flow and business processes, as well as address concerns on embedding safety, government testing and regulatory requirements in the design process.

The inaugural meeting took place last month, and was attended by retailers including department stores, specialty apparel, hardlines and grocery  stores. 

The PLM for Retail Standards Committee was formed after retailers agreed that creating standards for process, content and data is a necessity that will save time and resources and support speed-to-market initiatives.

Discussions focused on how to build standards for colour, materials and fabric libraries, as well as testing and point of measure codes which will make it easier for everyone to collaborate.

The committee will meet every quarter.
