WHY WE ARE RUNNING A TESTING PROGRAM

By Andrew Leighton | 30 January 2017

In the first blog post I walked you through re:source – the different tools that will form part of it, and the first tool we'll be making available to you, our testers – our trade agreements and tariffs database.

But WHY we are running a testing program? And just how important is your feedback to us?

What this program is all about

It's simple really – this testing program exists because we want to maximise the value that re:source can provide to you.

Running a test program – and gathering your feedback – means we will focus on developing the features that matter the most to you – which means we can launch re:source more quickly.

We'll find out what parts of the product you use most, which bits make sense, and which don't – letting you be the judge of what's most valuable.

What we hope to learn

Through the release of the trade agreements database, followed by the trade data tool, we hope to understand – to some degree – how valuable this information is to you, how often you would want it to be updated, what elements work best, and which ones don't.

We'd also like to know what's missing – for example, “I see you're covering EU-Southern African Development Community (SADC), but what about the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement?”. We'll provide ways for you to instantly give us feedback within the product itself.

But I think what's most important for us is to understand whether this product is going to add value to your day-job. This is ultimately why we're building it.

What you get out of it

By asking for your time and agreement to take part in the test program, we're already asking for something up-front from you. Unfortunately, developing great products is a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation.

How so?

Well, if re:source is eventually able to save you time, or provide more insight than you're currently able to gather, it will be as a result of the input you, and other testers like you, gave us. But we have to have that input first, before we can deliver this value.

So, we need your help upfront, but ultimately you'll get a more relevant and valuable information tool. I hope that seems like a fair trade.

What happens next

We're nearly ready to give you access to the trade agreements and tariffs module, but we've still got a little more work to do.

Before that, I'll be posting any news and announcements in this blog. I'd also like to send you some questions to help me understand more about the type of jobs that we hope re:source will help you with.

Once you have access to re:source, you'll be given access to a list of FAQs, plus a product tour to get you up and running.

Each of the product's pages will have a feedback form, which you can use to post comments to me and the development team. You can also contact me directly on andrew.leighton@aroq.com or by calling my direct number: +44 (0)1527 573 603.

We urge you to explore the product, use its search tool to find trade agreements and tariffs, download data, share it with colleagues and above all, tell us what you think in the comments below.
