The outlook for UK retailers continues to look bleak. UK department store John Lewis blamed a "challenging" retail backdrop for a more than 45% drop in full-year profits to GBP160m. It was a similar story for rival Debenhams, which issued a warning on full-year profits based on poor sales performance. Latest figures have revealed a fall in US apparel import volumes from nine of the top ten supplier countries in November. China, its biggest apparel supplier, booked flat growth.
