The old saying "Good things come to those who wait" is certainly true for re:source, the new suite of data-driven sourcing tools being developed by the team here at just-style.

We first revealed that this exciting product was in the pipeline a year ago, but behind the scenes it has been more than four years in the making.

The idea for re:source first came about through conversations with the many industry contacts made during just-style's 18 years of reporting on the apparel industry and its supply chain. One point we kept hearing time and time again was that sourcing teams are under pressure to make better, faster decisions – but lacked a quick and easy way to track down the information to help them.

So we came up with a new tool – called re:source – to navigate the complex matrix that spans global trade rules and regulations, countries, regions and product categories.

And we've been designing, coding, testing, future-proofing, and verifying it with some of the world's biggest brands, retailers and manufacturers.

Of course at every step along the way, new ideas, requests and opportunities have come to light. Many of these have already been incorporated into re:source, while others will be introduced as part of our longer-term development plans as re:source evolves.

Now we've reached the next milestone, which is to launch the open beta of re:source. This will let apparel industry executives take a first look at our first release: the re:source trade agreements and tariffs database.

The re:source trade agreements and tariffs database:

  • Addresses the need for more accessible information on trade and tariff data;
  • Saves time by providing a clear and concise, single source for apparel trade agreements;
  • Helps find the right duty rate, instantly, thanks to country and category filters;

Summarises agreement rules for easy understanding;

  • Helps you stay future-proofed with notes on the current and future tariffs outlook for each country;
  • Ensures you are prepared for change with simple overviews of trade agreement phase-out schedules;
  • Puts things into context with related news from just-style.

You can now register to use it for free for a limited time – as well as share your views on what we've done – by clicking on this link.

And this is just the start. Future releases from re:source will include:

  • A trade data tool to track values, volumes and average prices by country and garment category over time;
  • Country profiles to allow sourcing professionals to consistently compare countries by key factors to find potential savings and identify hidden risks;
  • A product costing database; and
  • Personalisation for users to create and share their own alerts, dashboards and saved searches.

We hope you find re:source useful, and look forward to receiving your feedback.
