Teijin Frontier, the fibres and products converting company of Teijin Group, has developed a new high-stretch eco-hybrid fibre made with plant-derived and recycled materials.
Solotex Eco-Hybrid is an eco-friendly polymer with a chemically recycled polyester polymer, each featuring different heat-shrinkage characteristics to enable the formation of coiled crimp yarn. It represents a new line in Teijin’s polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibre Solotex family.
Teijin Frontier’s existing side-by-side conjugated fibre comprises a highly stretchable Solotex PTT-fibre polymer made with about 40% plant-based raw materials and PET made of recycled raw materials. The newest version solves the problem of achieving a consistent crimp structure in an eco-friendly side-by-side conjugated fibre made with recycled PET, the firm says.
The filament yarn and textile will be introduced as a featured product for 2020 autumn/winter fashion apparel, offering possibilities for products such as enhanced sportwear and uniforms.
Teijin is expecting annual sales of Solotex Eco-Hybrid to grow from JPY500m (US$4.6m) in 2020 to JPY1.5bn in 2022 (filament yarn equivalent).
“In recent years, demands have been growing for materials offering functionality and comfort, such as stretchability and soft textures,” the company says. “Also, users are seeking eco-friendly fabrics made with recycled and plant-derived materials.”
