Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) has launched a Covid-19 worker safety hotline aimed at giving workers more information about the disease and how to prevent it.
The Covid-19 Worker Safety Hotline uses Interactive Voice Response technology — an automated system to which workers can call to learn about Covid-19 prevention and get information for their daily work and life.
The contents of the service are derived from guidelines and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and will be regularly updated in line with the latest official advice.

In a statement to local publication Khmer Times, Sara Park, the programme manager at Better Factories Cambodia, said: “Ensuring safety and health for our workers at the workplace has always been one of ILO’s main priorities, especially during this difficult period. It is essential for all of us, including workers, to understand how to protect ourselves from it. Through this hotline, workers can get information promptly and it will be particularly useful for workers with limited literacy skills.”
Earlier this month, groups presenting Cambodia’s apparel and footwear manufacturers issued a fresh appeal to the European Union (EU) to postpone the planned withdrawal of the Everything But Arms (EBA) trade benefits as the country reels under the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

By GlobalDataCambodia is currently set to lose its duty-free benefits on some garment and footwear products and all travel goods from 12 August. After this date, the products will incur duties at the WTO’s Most Favoured Nation (MFN) rate.
The BFC programme was extended for a further three years in February and will now continue until December 2022, during which time the partners have committed to continue to improve working conditions, competitiveness and productivity in the textile and apparel sector.
