- Pakistan's ministry of textiles has asked the Turkish government to waive safeguard duties currently imposed on its apparel imports. Exports to Turkey dropped by almost 50% to around US$500m from $1bn following the imposition. PAKISTAN TODAY
- Ethiopia's Awassa Textile is to invest ETB168m (US$7.8m) in an expansion project, through a loan agreement with the Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE). The company hopes to double production through the investment. ADDIS FORTUNE
- Chinese denim fabric manufacturer Prosperity Textile is to set up warehouse in Turkey, which will house fabric, ranging from light to heavy-weight, cotton, tencel and stretch versions from the end of May. - Around 150 striking workers from Japanese-owned Nissey Factory in Svay Rieng have called an end to a near ten-day strike after negotiating with management over the end of forced overtime and lunch requirements. PHNOM PENH POST
- A fire broke out in Sri Lanka's Brandix apparel factory in Katunayake on 13 April. The blaze was put out immediately, preventing it spreading to neighbouring facilities. The cause or the extent of damages is not yet known. COLOMBO PAGE
