Teijin Frontier, the fibre product converting business of Japanese conglomerate Teijin Group, has developed new sportswear and other clothing products integrating highly functional fibres and sensing techniques.

The products feature the company’s Nanofront high-strength ultra-fine polyester microfibre, which has a diameter of just 700nm.

The new Coaching wear deploys an algorithm that  visualises the difference between the actual motion of the wearer and their ideal motion at a particular time. Teijin Frontier says the technology can be applied to various scenarios, including the improvement of sports techniques and more effective support for those undergoing physical rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, the ‘Vital sensing wear’ senses the heart’s electrical activity, heart rates, and activity levels, and minimises the noise generated by contact of the body with sportswear during exercise. Combining Nanofront with vital-sign sensing technology, it can be used in various scenarios including sports team management and the prediction of heatstroke risk.

Teijin Frontier says it is targeting annual sales of US$3bn in sports training, workplace applications and other fields by the fiscal year ending March 2021. Samples of the products will be on show this week at the Wearable Expo trade fair in Tokyo.
