Italian man-made fibre specialist Fulgar has acquired the Pompea hosiery, tights and intimate wear brand to retain its ‘Made in Italy’ tradition.
Fulgar, headquartered in Castel Goffredo in the heart of Italy’s hosiery region, has a turnover of over EUR200m and is a leading manufacturer of nylon 6.6 and covered elastomers, as well as European distributor of the Lycra brand.
Pompea, based in the same Mantuan district, has an annual turnover of EUR70m and owns the women’s ‘Roberta’ underwear brand.
“The acquisition is part of a project which, also through safeguarding the Italian nature of the brand, will contribute to the recovery of the centrality and leadership of the District of Calza in the European socks and underwear market,” says Fulgar CEO Attilia Casnici.
“We are convinced that this operation will bring benefits for the whole area and we will work to maintain market equity.”
According to Pompea owner Alessandro Rodella there was also interest from Russian investors in buying the business. However, “My family and I are rooted in the district…and this is why we preferred the Garosi family to guarantee the future of the brand and the production we created.”

By GlobalDataFulgar’s nylon products and covered yarns are used in a range of materials and fabrics, including hosiery, circular knitting, lingerie, beachwear and sports apparel.
It has operations in Sri Lanka and Serbia, and manufactures and distributes Rhodia-Solvay’s Emana fibres in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In 2015 the company launched the first 100% bio-based polyamide EVO by Fulgar.
