Hong Kong-based apparel manufacturing giant Crystal International has led 11 subsidiary factories in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in switching off unnecessary lights, encouraging the use of energy-efficient lighting and promoting energy saving.

The move, which involved more than 44,000 staff, marked the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour – one of the largest collective environmental movements.

A global environmental initiative, Earth Hour sees individuals, businesses, governments and communities join hands to switch off their lights for one hour at the designated date and time to support environmentally sustainable actions and promote energy saving messages.

Crystal International, which has now supported the initiative for nine consecutive years, says it wants to influence its staff into adopting energy-saving practices.

“On environmental protection, it is necessary to let more people join us in promoting energy-saving practices to their families and friends, protecting our nature, and eventually achieving massive environmental impact for our planet,” the company said.

Earlier this year, Crystal International was among five companies to join Global Fashion Agenda’s new Associate Partners circle, supporting the organisation’s mission to make the fashion industry sustainable.
