The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has released the latest version of its Restricted Substance List (RSL), listing banned or restricted chemicals and substances in apparel, footwear, and home textile products around the world.
Produced by the AAFA’s RSL Task Force, the open-industry resource is available for all industry professionals and is updated to reflect additions or changes to regulations and laws that restrict or ban certain chemicals in finished products.
“Consumers deserve clothes, shoes, and other fashion items that reflect their personal style and meet the highest safety standards no matter where they live,” says AAFA president and CEO Steve Lamar. “AAFA’s RSL task force is focused on maintaining a resource that not only ensures safe chemical management, but ultimately protects our consumers. Chemical management is an important part of a responsible and compliant supply chain. As such, we continue to provide our RSL as an open-industry resource to the industry.”
The RSL serves as a practical tool to help individuals in textile, apparel and footwear companies, and their suppliers – responsible for environmental compliance throughout the supply chain – to become more aware of various national and international regulations governing the amount of substances that are permitted in finished home textile, apparel, and footwear products.
The 21st edition covers 12 categories with more than 250 chemicals.
It can be downloaded here, with translated versions also available in Spanish, Vietnamese/Tieng Viet or Mandarin.
