
The global apparel industry noticed an 11.3% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Amazon’s 67.66% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The apparel industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.98% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 6.24% share of the global apparel industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 1.16% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 19.42% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 54.04% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 76.22% emerged as the top IT occupation in the apparel hiring activity in August 2022, an 11.28% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 10.06% in August 2022, down 20.12% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 5.48% share in August 2022, a growth of 21.83% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 4.36% share in August 2022 and a rise of 1.37% over July 2022.
Top five apparel companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 13.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global apparel industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
Amazon posted 3,443 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 15.51% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 247 jobs and a 15.41% decline. Inter IKEA Holding with 124 IT jobs and eBay with 102 jobs, recorded a 31.91% growth and a 14.29% drop, respectively, while NIKE recorded a 28.21% rise with 100 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in apparel industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global apparel IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 74.3% share, which marked a 4.91% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 13.2%, registering a 22.31% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 9.77% share and a 48.44% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.43% and a month-on-month drop of 17.98%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.3%, registering a 14.29% decrease over the previous month.
