The collaboration between TrusTrace, a global SaaS company specialising in product traceability and compliance, and Peftrust, a prominent provider of product-level environmental footprinting solutions for textiles and footwear, aims to address the growing demand for tracking and evaluating a product’s environmental impact throughout its lifecycle.

The partnership, unveiled at the Premiere Vision Paris event held from 4-6 July, offers an integration of Peftrust’s precise Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) scores with TrusTrace’s authenticated environmental traceability data. By combining these two tools, the collaboration is said to provide an end-to-end solution that enables fashion brands to assess their environmental impact and traceability comprehensively.

Brands can generate an initial Product Environment Footprint (PEF) score by entering a few data points, and the TrusTrace data automatically augments the score’s accuracy.

TrusTrace’s data is connected to Peftrust through an API, allowing for the swift calculation and integration of the score into TrusTrace’s user interface.

The adoption of PEF scores has gained significance for fashion brands in France and Europe according to Bruno Mattia, TrusTrace’s director of business development, as it validates sustainability claims, facilitates eco-design improvements, and ensures compliance with evolving regulations.

Mattia continued: “By partnering with Peftrust, a best-in-class product life cycle assessment (LCA) solution, we have integrated our solutions to send specific environmental data to Peftrust which, in turn, is available directly within the TrusTrace platform.”

Mattia emphasised that this partnership enables the world’s first end-to-end solution combining environmental traceability and impact, offering critical measurements to the largest fashion brands worldwide.

The partnership is said to amplify the accuracy and granularity of PEF scores by leveraging TrusTrace’s primary data, which defines a traceability standard, as opposed to relying on less precise industry-averaged data. With access to more than 20 specific parameters from TrusTrace’s supply chain network, the score becomes more robust and tailored to brand-specific parameters.

Laurent Bocahut, a representative from Peftrust, highlighted the significance of both company’s efforts for the industry and added: “Stronger data protects brands from the risk of making false or misleading sustainability claims.”

He continued: “Our partnership with TrusTrace is enabling TrusTrace’s customers to more comprehensively evaluate their products and better assess the impact of each at scale.”

The PEF is a comprehensive methodology developed by the European Commission to account for a product’s entire lifecycle, considering 16 impacts beyond its carbon footprint. Based on LCA, the PEF score tracks the environmental impact of materials from manufacturing to the end of a product’s “life.”

The organisations explain an increasing number of US brands are recognising the PEF score as a reliable measure of sustainability.
