UK high street fashion retailer New Look has axed around 390 store management roles in a move aimed at re-balancing the levels of senior and junior staff.
In what is understood to have been a wider redundancy consultation affecting around 1,000 staff, a spokesperson said 390 store manager and sales manager roles were cut.

“Following a review launched last year, we completed a consultation process over the summer with affected staff so we could assess the level of management roles in our UK and ROI stores. We carried this out to simplify and improve the management structure across our UK and ROI store estate so that we are better placed to meet the needs of our customers,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
“We worked closely with all of the affected staff to inform of the proposed changes and to consult on potential options for continuing their employment with us.”
Despite the job cuts, New Look says it is preparing to hire 250 staff members in junior roles in a bid to redress the balance.
The retailer has been battling with falling sales and last month saw its CEO Anders Kristiansen stand down. The company is now embarking on the next phase of its development aimed at diversifying the business and reducing its dependence on the UK high street.
