USA: Saks Names Jones Head Of Department Store Group

Retailer Saks Incorporated has named George L Jones chief executive officer of its department store group, effective March 1, 2001. Jones will also serve on the company’s board of directors. Jones will have responsibility for leading the traditional department store business of the company. The company's $4bn DSG business consists of 252 traditional department stores operating in 24 states under the names of Carson Pirie Scott, Parisian, Proffitt's, McRae's, Younkers, Herberger's, Bergner's, and Boston Store. Jones will be based in Birmingham, Alabama, the headquarters of DSG and Saks Incorporated.
