The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has started an investigation to assess the likely economic effect of a proposed US-United Kingdom Trade Agreement.

The investigation, ‘US-UK Trade Agreement: Advice on the Probable Economic Effect of Providing Duty-free Treatment for Currently Dutiable Imports,’ was requested by the US Trade Representative last month.

It follows the news earlier this year that the Trump Administration intends to negotiate three separate trade agreements with Japan, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.

The USITC expects to submit its report, which will be confidential, to the USTR by 8 May 2019.

A public hearing will be held in connection with the investigation on 31 January and requests to appear at the hearing are due by 10 January. Written submissions for the record are due by 11 February. All written submissions, except for confidential business information, will be available for public inspection.
