New Zealand sustainable clothing retailer Made With Respect has joined international organisation 1% for the Planet, pledging to donate 1% of annual sales to support environmental causes.
Members contribute 1% of annual sales directly to any of the approved non-profit environmental organisations in the network. Non-profits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus. Thousands of non-profits worldwide are currently approved.
“Our member companies have donated more than US$175m to our environmental non-profit partners to date,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.
“Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment, and only 3% of that comes from businesses. The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of member businesses is doing its valuable part to increase giving and support on the ground outcomes. Our members lead with purpose and commitment, characteristics that consumers support. We’re excited to welcome Made With Respect to our global network.”
Made With Respect is a platform for sustainable self-care, fashion, accessories, home décor and outdoor gear.
Founder and CEO Susan Stevens says partner brands qualify by making quality products that last and can be passed down through generations; have a transparent supply chain with good working conditions and no child labour; use no chemicals or toxins; and support local or disadvantaged communities, being more than a profit driven operation.
