The world’s six largest container carriers are understood to be preparing to launch a new global association that aims to standardise industry practices as a way of making the sector more efficient.
The new group comprises Maersk Line, MSC, Cosco, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloys, and One, according to ShippingWatch. The purpose of the collaboration is to agree joint standards and best practice before independent solutions are developed.

While the six liner companies control the vast majority of the global container market – around 70% – the collaboration is said to be open to any others wishing to join.
The initiative comes at a time when all participants have an interest in finding joint solutions across some of the technologies to be developed over the coming years, according to ShippingWatch.
