Canadian yogawear retailer Lululemon has developed a bra range using what it says is industry-leading innovation to enable the product to feel like a second skin.

Technology for the ‘Like Nothing’ line was developed at its Whitespace research and development lab in Vancouver over four years, using the same approach that informed the design of the Enlite Bra which launched last year.

The company developed a way to identify and measure a person’s unique pattern of movement. It found that two women with a 36C bra size experienced different breast motion as they moved.

“Through this research and testing, Lululemon learned that women feel that they have to compromise on comfort, performance or aesthetics when selecting a bra,” the company said. “For ‘Like Nothing’, the main insight that drove this innovation was the desire for an uncompromised “better than naked” feeling in a bra. This is achieved by engineering the fabric-to-skin interaction through a unique combination of fabric properties, 3D construction and elevated fit.”

The result was a bra line made using a proprietary fabric called Light Ultralu, with added Lycra, which moulds to the body with a barely-there feel. The fabric also offers sweat-wicking capabilities and lightweight breathability. Strategically-placed bonding and three-dimensional moulded cups, coupled with minimal seams and free-cut edges put comfort at the forefront, while stitch-free hook-and-eye closures lie flat against the body.

Discrete variations in construction as well as cup and band specifications, create consistent fit and movement management across the bra’s full spectrum of 20 sizes.
