Performance fabric specialist WL Gore & Associates has established an innovation centre in California’s Silicon Valley district, offering start-ups the chance to collaborate with Gore scientists on a range of advanced materials science challenges.
The new 11,000 sq ft facility aims to help start-ups achieve and scale scientific breakthroughs, supported by Gore’s material science expertise. These will be in a variety of areas, including fabrics, aerospace, automotive, digital health and medical technologies.

“The Gore innovation centre is a place for experimenting with new ideas, pushing boundaries and bringing together diverse talents to deliver transformative solutions that improve lives,” explains Linda Elkins, co-leader of the centre.
Digital health start-up Kenzen is the first firm to sign a joint development agreement with the centre and is working with Gore engineers and scientists to develop a comprehensive wearable monitoring system that employs biosensor data and predictive modelling to anticipate avoidable injuries. Kenzen will incorporate advanced materials from Gore to enhance the comfort, reliability and durability of this system.
