US department store retailer Target Corp has committed to sourcing 100% of the electricity used in its domestic operations from renewable sources by 2030.
The pledge will see the company power its stores, distribution centres, and offices more responsibly – and builds on a renewable energy goal it made back in 2017.

“At Target, we’ve been on a multi-year journey to operate our facilities more sustainably, and setting this ambitious goal is an important milestone,” says John Leisen, vice president, property management, Target.
The Minneapolis-based retailer says it is working toward an initial checkpoint of sourcing 60% of its electricity through renewable sources by 2025. To get there, it plans to invest in projects around the country that produce electricity through renewable resources, like sun and wind.
Target has already made additional upgrades at its facilities to make them more sustainable, including efforts to ensure rooftop solar panels are installed at 500 of its locations by 2020.
Earlier this year the retailer also announced goals to reduce its carbon footprint – including in its entire supply chain where 96% of the businesses’ greenhouse gas emissions are produced.
