“As part of the brand’s mission to offer more sustainable product through materials and sourcing partners, Madewell used fabric comprised of recyclable plastic for each style, saving eight plastic bottles per swimsuit and four plastic bottles per bikini which gives plastic that may be destined for landfills a second life,” the brand said.
In total, 50,920 bottles were used to produce the Second Wave collection.
All items in the line retail for less than US$100.
Parent company J Crew recently reported its restructuring initiative has started to pay off with second-quarter results showing positive comparable sales growth in its namesake brand for the first time in four years. It also reported a “continued stellar performance” at Madewell with 28% comparable sales growth – putting the line on a path to becoming a $1bn brand.
