Epic Group is a Hong Kong based clothing manufacturer with facilities across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It is ranked this year in several Excellence categories including Business Expansion, Environmental, Innovation and Social.
The company has expanded its manufacturing base during the research period with plans for further expansion in Bangladesh and for new state-of-the-art facilities in India, Middle East, and other parts of the world. In Bangladesh the company is investing in a ‘Factory of the Future’ which includes automation through features such as digital stitching machines and mold prevention machines; greater use of standardized components; the creation of product clusters; and the installation of solar panels. The company is also founding a centralized washing and effluent treatment plant, a new dyeing and printing facility and a facility dedicated to denim.
Epic also invested in its processes including developing a bespoke Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool and overhauling its RFID tracking through the use of chips and tags and rolling out an SAP platform to help with employee management including coaching and the tracking of KPIs. The company also overhauled its expenses practices and treasury management.
In regards to environmental initiatives, as well as upgrading facilities, as mentioned above, Epic has also partnered with CleanKore to advance sustainable denim through water and chemical reductions. The company has also reduced water use overall through methods such as installing new machinery and greater use of captured rainfall, and is changing its fibre mix to more sustainable alternatives.
The company’s social initiatives include partnering with the Asian University for Women to offer undergraduate courses to selected female employees and offering internal training through Epic University. Epic also partnered WaterAid Bangladesh to improve access to clean drinking water for its workers and with VisionSpring to offer screening for vision issues.
