American Silk Mills (ASM), which was acquired by the flagship textiles company of India’s KK Birla Group in 2017, has named David Corbin as its new CEO.

Corbin, who was most recently president and CEO at Real Home Furniture by Oak West, succeeds Cynthia Clark Douthit, who will continue to consult with the company in areas of design and product development upon her retirement.

Founded in 1896 and based in Plains, Pennsylvania, ASM specialises in designing, weaving and distributing indoor and outdoor performance fabrics, fine jacquard textiles, high-quality silk, a variety of velvets, and Sensuede, an eco-friendly synthetic suede.

The firm was acquired by Sutlej Textiles and Industries Limited in November 2017.

The company said Corbin will focus on building the ASM brand among current and prospective customers, as well as improving operations through “continuous improvement and innovation.” Future plans also include expanding the business through strategic acquisitions.

“The synergies between ASM and Sutlej offer infinite opportunity for alignment across the company that will expand the resources of the company and benefit our North American customers,” Corbin says. “I’m excited to begin working with the team to identify these synergies and optimising them to their full potential.”
