Canopy founder and executive director Nicole Rycroft said: “These brands from the US, UK, Germany, China, and Australia reflect the growing global momentum to make circularity and forest protection a core part of business in the fashion and lifestyle sectors.

“Implementing their commitments will help keep the world’s forests standing, accelerate the scaling of Next Gen Solutions, and demonstrate that style and sustainability go hand in hand.”

Pack4Good and CanopyStyle’s initiatives aim to eliminate the use of materials sourced from Ancient and Endangered Forests in both man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF) textiles, such as rayon and viscose, and paper-based packaging.

The announcement for new membership comes at a time when global demand for both MMCF textiles and paper packaging including delivery and gift boxes continue to grow.

According to Canopy, over 3.1 billion trees are harvested annually for paper packaging production alone, with many coming from the world’s few remaining Ancient and Endangered forests.

Brands can depend less on materials from forests by using solutions like textiles made from recycled materials.

This helps make their supply chains more stable and resilient, while also reducing the strain on important forests and cuts down on waste and pollution.

Marc O’Polo chief product officer Susanne Schwenger said: “Joining CanopyStyle and Pack4Good is an important step in advancing that mission.

“By working to eliminate Ancient and Endangered Forests from our packaging and textile supply chains and accelerating the shift to Next Gen fibres, we can help safeguard climate-critical forests while building a more resilient, responsible future for fashion. We are proud to collaborate with Canopy to drive meaningful change for people, animals, and the planet.”

With these recent additions, the CanopyStyle initiative now includes 590 brands with a combined annual revenue exceeding $2tn.

The Pack4Good programme has grown to encompass 480 brand partners representing over $403bn in annual revenues.

In February this year, textile manufacturing company Circulose also joined both initiatives.
