CHINA: Nanotechnology Moves Into Clothing

Nanotechnology experiments to make clothing water-proof and oil-proof are being carried out in China, with the first subject for experimentation being neckties. Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have been working with a necktie producer to produce so called 'nano neckties'. Dong Yongrong, general manager of the necktie producer, told Xinhua News Agency that it was important for silk, woollen and cotton neckties and other special purpose clothes to be water and oil resistant. He said “The nano technique retains the soft and comfortable qualities of silk.”
