Eastman Chemical Co, a global chemical company that produces materials, chemicals and fibres, has launched its sustainable cellulosic yarn Naia into the womenswear market.

Launched late last year, the Naia yarn is made from fully traceable and sustainably sourced wood pulp; Eastman holds FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody certification. The versatile cellulosic yarn is produced in a safe, closed-loop process where solvents are recycled back into the system for reuse, the company says.

In addition, Naia has an optimised, low-impact manufacturing process with a low tree-to-yarn carbon and water footprint. The fibre has a third party reviewed Life Cycle Assessment compliant with ISO14044 and is listed on the Higg Materials Sustainability Index.

Garments made from the yarn, which are on show at this week’s Premiere Vision trade show, benefit from excellent wrinkle recovery and pilling resistance, Eastman claims.

The company will be hosting a garment workshop at the show with fashion tailors Cynthia and Laura Merhej, and on Friday will host a workshop showcasing pleated Naia by Jule Waibel.

The garments on display in Eastman’s booth are inspired by upcoming fashion trends that the Naia team identified as ideal applications for fabrics made with Naia.
