Danish clothing brand Ganni is making sustainability strides, having announced its affiliation to the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and collaboration with RePack to ship more of its web orders in recyclable packaging.
The Sustainable Apparel Coalition brings together over 220 global brands, retailers, manufacturers and organisations from all parts of the apparel and textile industry, including Helly Hansen, Under Armour, Adidas, C&A, Gap Inc and VF Corp. It has been working to harmonise standards relating to sustainability, the environment and social issues, with additions including the Higg Index sustainability measurement tool.
“We’re hopeful that by joining the Sustainable Apparel Coalition it will not only give us greater visibility on our social, economic and environmental impact and enable us to make more informed choices but also connect us to like-minded brands, businesses, suppliers and individuals that are cohesively working to promote a more sustainable industry and open to sharing best practice, which will ultimately move the industry forward at a much quicker pace,” says Ganni founder Nicolaj Reffstrup.
SAC interim executive director, Amina Razvi, adds: “We welcome the addition of Ganni to the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and look forward to its participation in this industry-wide effort in sustainability. Having Ganni as part of the Coalition widens the scope of our impact within the industry and accelerates the change we’re making towards responsible industry actions.”
In addition, Ganni is offering its online customers the use of Finnish packaging firm RePack’s more sustainable packaging and has switched its normal packaging to a recycled plastic option.
RePack is a reusable and returnable packaging solution, made out of recycled polypropene, that is built to last at least 20 uses. In addition, the reusable packages are designed to fold in letter size when empty in a bid to encourage consumers to return empty RePack, free of charge.

By GlobalData“Our industry is ruled by extremely bad habits and we are far from perfect, but we recognise that not only is single-use plastic an issue, but single-use packaging also tends to be extremely wasteful too,” Reffstrup explains.
“We wanted to give our customers the option of Re-pack at checkout alongside our normal packaging – which we’ve also switched to a recycled plastic packaging – to see where our customers are on this journey.”
So far, Ganni has shipped 18% of its online orders in Re-pack since the launch three weeks ago.
“It’s a small step, but we believe that minor, as well as major sustainability projects, count in the long run, and we are dedicated to doing better every day,” Reffstrup adds.
Swedish fashion retailers Filippa K and Makia, Mud Jeans, Finlayson, and Scandinavian Outdoor also use RePack.
