German fashion house Gerry Weber has announced its youngest label Talkabout will be discontinued as part of a wider move by the company to focus on its core brands.

In a statement, the retailer said the decision comes as part of its new Performance Programme, which was launched in June of this year in a bid to generate sustainable profitable growth.

A little over two years old, the Talkabout label was developed exclusively for wholesale customers. Most recently, it counted about 170 customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Benelux as well as in Budapest and Prague. The last collection will be delivered in February 2019.

Its discontinuation will allow the group, which signed an agreement to sell its ‘Halle29’ showroom centre earlier this month, to focus on its core brands – Gerry Weber, Taifun, Samoo and Hallhuber.

“In view of the economic challenges facing our company, we are pooling our forces and will focus on our core business to be successful in the long term,” says CEO designate Johannes Ehling.

Ehling, chief sales and chief digital officer, is to assume the position of spokesperson of the board, taking over the responsibilities of CEO Ralf Weber who recently announced his intention to step down from the helm at the end of this month.
