  • Thailand's United Textile Co is to build a US$100m apparel factory in the An Giang province of Vietnam. Built as a two-part project, the first phase is expected to be operational by the end of 2016, and the second a year later. NGUOI VIET

  • South Korean textile and industrial materials maker Hyosung Corp is to expand production of spandex yarns at its China facility in Guangdong Province by 14.3% to 80,000 tonnes per year. The expansion will help its spandex brand Creora snap up more than 30% of the global market share. YONHAP NEWS

  • A fire broke out on the ground floor of a two-storey building in Gazipur, Bangladesh that houses a factory owned by Formosa Poly Cotton Textiles. Factory supervisor Md Khorshed Alam said the plant was inaugurated almost a month ago. It contained fabrics and yarn. FINANCIAL EXPRESS

  • Taiwanese-owned garment maker TY Fashion (Cambodia) is planning to list on the Cambodia Securities Exchange this year after receiving approval. TY Fashion would be the third company and second Taiwanese-owned garment company to join the Kingdom's bourse after Grand Twins International listed in June 2013. THE PHNOM PENH POST 
  • Some 200 children working in footwear and accessory factories in Hyderabad, India, have been rescued. The children, mostly boys aged between 4 and 12 years, were allegedly being paid between INR2,000 (US$32.60) and INR5,000 per month. They were believed to have been working 14 hours a day. THE HINDU
