  • Ready made garments and fabrics worth lakhs (a hundred thousand) of rupees have been destroyed after a fire broke out in a factory in Sachin, India. The cause of the fire may have been a short circuit incident inside the facility, which exported shirts around the world. There were no casualties. TIMES OF INDIA 
  • Yasin Siddique, chairman of the All Pakistan Mills Association (Aptma) has outlined plans to grow textile exports to US$40bn in ten years. He added that the textile industry is “well-placed” to increase its exports to $26bn in the next three years. He was speaking at a press conference early this week. THE NEWS 
  • Chinese yarn spinner Keer America Corp plans to spend US$218m on expanding its production capacity, in a move that will create 500 jobs. Keer will build a manufacturing plant in Lancaster County, and set up a separate US head office. Production at the site is expected to start as soon as mid-2015. CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL
  • Chinese textile giant, Shandong Ruyi Technology Group Co, has acquired a 52% share in Masood Textile Mills for an undisclosed sum. Textile players say the Chinese have been actively seeking Pakistani partners during the last six months. One said the Chinese addressed the skill gaps in Bangladesh and Vietnam, and hoped to do better in Pakistan. THE NEWS 
  • A major part of a textile mill on the National Highway near Karachi, Pakistan, has been gutted after a fire broke out there last month. No one was hurt during the blaze, which was a category three – the highest category. THE TRIBUNE
