- Vietnam’s biggest apparel producer Vinatex (the Vietnam National Textile Garment Group) aims to become the country’s top fashion retailer too. It plans to build 200 supermarkets, stores and trade centres by 2015, and raise garment and textile sales to 60% of its total. Vinatex currently operates 58 stores and 300 suppliers. TOAN VIET
- South Korean company TK Outdoor Limited is investing US$4.8 to set up a manufacturing unit in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Export Processing Zone. The facility will make all kinds of garment accessories, and will employ 360 Bangladeshi nationals. ASIA PULSE
- An ETB1.2m (US$702,527) textile factory being built by Turkish investors in Dire Dawa Town is nearing completion. The plant is being built on an 18-hectare site, and is due to begin production three months’ time. It will provide work for more than 1, 500 people and export 80% of its production. - Textile company Sangam India is investing INR 180 crore to double its denim capacity to 32m metres, set up texturing yarn production capacity of 7,200 tonnes per annum and install 2,304 rotors for open-ended yarn at Bhilwara in Rajasthan. The company expects to complete the project by December and will target growing demand for fancy denim which is produced by blending cotton, poly viscose, Lycra and textured yarn. THE HINDHU
- Bangladesh’s exports rose 32.4% year-on-year in August to $2.376bn, led by strong demand for the country’s ready-made garments. According to the Export Promotion Bureau, for the fiscal year that ended in June, exports surged 41.5% to $22.9bn. Exports for July-August, the first two months of the current fiscal year, were up 30.4% at $4.7bn, with earnings from knitted textiles rising 29.6% to $2.1bn woven garments up 33.6% to $1.76bn. - Vietnam has earned nearly $5.3bn from garment and textile exports to the US in the first nine months of this year, up 16% from a year earlier, according to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas). The US is Vietnam’s largest garment and textile importer, followed by the EU, Japan and South Korea. Vietnam’s total garment export earnings between January and September rose 31.1% to $10.5bn.
