  • India’s apparel exports rose by approximately 24% to US$1.1bn in February 2011 due to strong demand from US and European markets. The Apparel Export Promotion Council said Indian exports have become competitive because of the government’s restrictions on exports and cotton. ASIA PULSE
  • Japanese sock maker Tabio Corporation is entering into the Chinese market by opening a new store in Hong Kong by the end of 2011. Most of the products will be made in Japan and exported to China. The firm plans to later expand into Shanghai and other cities. ASIA PULSE
  • Six potential buyers have submitted their bid proposals for Kim’s Club Mart, supermarket chain operator of fashion retailer E-Land Group. E-Land will come up with a shortlist of two or three candidates for a preliminary study on books of Kim’s Club on 5 April, the group said. ASIA PULSE
  • Baltic clothing retail group Apranga posted sales of LTL86.3m (US$35.2m) for the first quarter of this year, up 8.3% year-on-year. In March alone, the turnover of the group rose by 7.4% compared with March 2010, to LTL28.9m. The group’s three-month sales in Lithuania also grew by 4.7% to LTL56.2m. BALTIC BUSINESS DAILY 
  • China’s cotton planting area in 2011 is rising 6.2% from last year, according to a survey published yesterday (31 March). The total cotton area is estimated at 5.28m hectares this year, up 308,533 hectares from 2010. The survey was based on samples collected in 15 provinces and autonomous regions. REUTERS
