- Pakistan’s government has proposed a PKR200bn (US$1.91m) bailout package for reviving and modernising the country’s textile industry. This will include the introduction of new technology and massive infrastructural modernisation. The government will also look to give special incentives on taxes for the industry to enhance value added. BUSINESS RECORDER
- Bangladesh’s Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) programme has held an introductory joint meeting with the government’s Environment and Forest Ministry to formalise a sustainability and green growth working committee for harmonising economic growth with environmental sustainability. The committee will work for “improving eco-efficiency of economic growth and will enhance the synergies between the environment and the economy”. DHAKA TRIBUNE
- Pakistan has asked the US to ensure preferential access of Pakistani products to its textile market to further strengthen trade ties between the two countries. During the 8th Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Council Meeting in Islamabad, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan stressed the importance of easing visa regimes for exporters of IT related services for access of Pakistan to US markets. - Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has suggested the creation of a national technical standard for garments and textile products. The new standard is to be made effective by the beginning of 2017, and would result in abolishing current regulation on the inspection of formaldehyde content in textiles and garments. CCF GROUP
- India’s government plans to conduct roadshows to promote the country’s textiles in non-traditional markets like Russia, South America and select countries in West Asia, at a time when shipments from the sector have been declining.
