The chairman of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab, Aamir Fayyaz, says the association’s members will close their mills for a day in a bid to resolve all the issues hitting the viability of the industry. Vietnam’s central Thua Thien-Hue province plans to spend more than VND6.6 trillion (US$295m) transforming itself into a textile and garment hub. Under the plan, the province will focus on developing the domestic market and expanding export markets; boosting research, product design, brand-building and promotion; and developing a professional fashion industry to change the rural labour structure. Work on a Textile Park at Irur village on the Tiruchi-Perambalur National Highway in Tamil Nadu is due to commence by October. The park will mainly cater to the needs of export-oriented readymade garment units and the production of yarn. India’s cotton industry is calling on the Textile Ministry to stabilise cotton prices and put them on a par with international prices in a bid to improve the competitiveness of India’s textile value chain.
