  • Illegal strikes, an increase in the minimum wage and high electricity costs were all subjects discussed at the 13th annual meeting between Cambodia and Japan earlier this month. During the meeting, which was attended by around 150 people, Kumamaru Yuji, Japan’s ambassador to Cambodia, said he appreciated the government’s help in reducing illegal strikes and facilitating smooth working communications, as well as the new union law that will be adopted soon.   • Ethiopia’s Almeda Textile Factory has completed its ETB86m (US$4m) expansion, designed to increase its fabric production capacity by 100%. The expansion, which took place over the last six months, included replacing machinery with the latest products. Spinning, which used to yield 20,000 kg per day will now increase fivefold, and will enable the group to look for export opportunities. ALL AFRICA 
  • Around 30 workers fainted at the Chun Chao (Cambodia) garment factory in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district this month, reportedly because they were hungry. Administrative officer Wang Zhi Ping said the workers had either skipped breakfast or had not had enough to eat before they started working, and that there was nothing wrong with the factory.   • Toray Industries is to launch a health care service next month that will enable companies to monitor the health of their employees using a new material capable of measuring a person’s biometric signals. The textile, called hitoe, is embedded with wearable sensors that can record a person’s heart rate and electrocardiogram. JAPAN TIMES
  • Job postings in Seattle indicate Amazon is planning a strong push into fast-fashion apparel. One listing calls for a senior brand manager to “drive the DNA and face of a new brand”. It is thought entry will occur in 2017, with the initiative a “top priority” of management. SEEKING ALPHA
