  • Pakistan’s Government has allocated PKR65bn (US$616.3bn) for the country’s textile sector under a new policy. President Mamnoon Hussain said the government is taking measures to overcome the energy crisis and that resources are being utilised to develop the industrial sector. DAILY PAKISTAN
  • Japanese chemical maker Teijin is developing a fibre containing ingredients that protect the skin. It will be made of modified polyester polymer containing malic acid to retain the skin’s low acidity. The fibre also releases compounds that interact with the skin’s moisture to “enhance beauty”. Sportswear group Descente will launch a yoga and running range using the fibre next summer, and Teijin plans an underwear line for 2016. NIKKEI ASIAN REVIEW
  • Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has said that no tax will be imposed on locally manufactured items which have been produced from imported goods. A tax has been levied on imported items only. Revenue generated from the tax will be spent on development projects in all four provinces. DAILY PAKISTAN
  • Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla Nuvo has launched an initiative to “handhold” a large number of textile partners across the country by supporting them from design development and technical support to marketing and buyer linkages. The Liva Accredited Partner Forum (LAPF) is aimed at improving India’s textile value chain and is designed to help propel the country to becoming the world’s top fabric manufacturing hub, it has said.   • Pakistan is buying more cotton than expected from India after floods cut its own crop to the smallest in over a decade, opening an opportunity for the world’s biggest producer to offload its bulging stockpiles. The purchases, however, have pushed up cotton prices in India to above a state-fixed support price in most regions, reducing the pressure on the government to buy from distressed farmers. REUTERS
