  • The Bangladesh Bank (BB) will set up a US$500m fund to help boost the export sector, with a special focus on the textile and ready-made garment industries.   • At least eight people were injured when a fire broke out at Nowab Spinning Mills Limited in Ruphanj, Bangladesh. The fire caused damage worth around BDT500m (US$6.4m) as a huge amount of yarn, cotton, and machinery was burnt. BANGLA NEWS 24
     
  • Some 30 garment workers were injured when leaving the Next Collection factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh earlier this month, after being panicked by news that a fire had broken out. Of the injured, four workers are in critical condition. The fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit on the third floor of the facility. DHAKA TRIBUNE 
     
  • Around 39 children aged between 10 and 15 were rescued from leather tanning units in South Mumbai in two separate raids. In one factory, 34 children were made to cut leather, sew and punch leather jackets, purses and belts, while five were found working in another. THE TIMES OF INDIA 
     
  • A fire broke out at South Korean-owned sport shoe maker Samho Vietnam Co last week, with hundreds of workers needing to be evacuated. The cause of the blaze is being investigated. Samho Vietnam produces sports shoes for export and employs more than 10,000 people. TUOI TRE NEWS
