A second version of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) ‘Monitor’ software tool has launched, allowing for the evaluation of water and energy during certified organic textile manufacturing.
The standard aims to define worldwide recognised requirements that ensure the organic status of textile products, from harvesting of the raw materials, through manufacturing to labelling in order to provide assurance to the end consumer. Textile processors and manufacturers can export their organic fabrics and garments with one certification accepted in all major markets.

Through Version 2.0, operators will need to have available, and provide, data on energy and water consumption per kg of textile output, and target goals and procedures to reduce energy and water use.
Both requirements are covered by GOTS Monitor, as it determines actual performance and specific consumption values and provides realistic, factory-specific benchmark values that can be used both as improvement targets and milestones to monitor their progress.
Achieved improvements are presented both in environmental and in monetary terms and it also allows operators to compare own performance vis-à-vis global benchmarks from facilities doing similar processing on similar machinery.
Compared to the previous version, the new release is developed using state-of-the-art tools and methods, fixes any bug and shortcoming reported by its numerous users, and has new operational features, increasing its user-friendliness, stability, scalability, portability and robustness.

By GlobalDataThe updated tool also has a much simpler user interface, uses an activation and licensing scheme that is easier to navigate, and includes enhanced processing methods and tools knowledge base. It aslo utilises much more accurate and extensive benchmarking methodology.
The revamped tool is free to use for GOTS certified textile companies. They can opt in for two levels of expert consultancy services (including recommendations for improvement) from Systainable Solutions Ltd for a nominal fee.
