Hanesbrands 2023 Sustainability Summary Report said it is making strides toward reaching its 2025 and 2030 goals around its pillars of people, planet and product that encompass its Hanes, Champion, Bonds, Maidenform and Bali brands.

Progress against 2025 and 2030 commitments

  • It is committed to a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030. Hanesbrands shared it has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 53% and Scope 3 reductions will be calculated in 2024.

Hanesbrands CEO Stephen Bratspies believes that meeting consumers expectations is how Hanesbrands makes sustainability accessible for all.

He said: “I am proud of the work we are doing to improve lives, protect the planet and thoughtfully manufacture products for consumers around the world. Between 2021 and 2023, we contributed to improving the lives of 3.4 million people globally by donating products and providing comfort to our communities where we live and work. Our strategic investments in sustainability have yielded $23m in savings since establishing our goals in 2020, including more than $10m in savings in 2023.”

Bratspies also noted that in 2023, Hanesbrands associates elevated their commitment to achieving the group’s goals around People, Planet, and Product, through associate-driven ‘I’m In’ programme, which captured 90,000 commitments from its global workforce who promised to implement sustainable practices in their lives.

In February, Bratspies revealed the process of selling its global Champion brand was “progressing as expected” and it had seen a significant interest, from a “broad and diverse group of global parties.”
