French luxury retailer Hermès is to strengthen its in-house leather production capabilities with the construction of a new workshop in Normandy.
The company yesterday (6 February) said construction of the new production site in Louviers, Eure, will begin in 2021 – with expansion of its production capacity to support the development of its leather goods and saddlery collections.

It is understood the new facility, which will employ some 250 saddlers and leather artisans, is the retailer’s 16th leather workshop, following the opening of a similar site in Val-de-Reuil in June 2017.
Hermès says the new site underlines its ongoing commitment to the Normandy region and boosts the area’s cluster of leather goods and saddle making workshops.
The retailer also reaffirmed its partnership with Pôle emploi, the French employment centre for the recruitment of saddle and leather artisans, as well as the school of Métiers d’Art Augustin Boismard in Brionne and the Haras national du Pin for training.
