As part of its commitment to closing the loop and a more sustainable fashion future, Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) has unveiled its latest sustainable offering – a global activewear collection.

Featuring a range of tights, sports bras, hoodies and tops for training, running and yoga, garments in the Conscious activewear line are all made with the “predominant use” of recycled polyester and elastane and have functional details such as being quick-dry and seamless for maximum comfort, plus built-in support and holes for ventilation.

“By bringing together the functional and feminine, the aim is to give customers a stylish, conscious sports collection,” explains Petra Smeds, head designer of sportswear at H&M. “And not just through the fabrics – we utilised a new knitting technique that creates seamless garments while using less yarn or fabric waste. Blending function with sustainable thinking and fashion in this way is the way forward.”

The Conscious activewear line, which is available globally in select stores now and launches online tomorrow (4 January), is a driver in H&M’s move towards a more sustainable fashion future and its overall goal of becoming 100% circular.

The retailer is also one of the world’s biggest users of recycled polyester and one of the biggest buyers of organic cotton, working towards the goal that all of its cotton will be 100% sustainably sourced by 2020.
