Chemicals manufacturer Huntsman Corporation has developed a new range of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) materials designed to help footwear makers improve productivity when creating injection-moulded parts.
The company describes the Avalon AB DI range as a brand new material family with a fast cycle time, which is easy to de-mould. It is designed to improve the cycle time and simplify the production of thick walled parts, offering significant de-mould improvements when compared to standard injection moulding materials.

According to Huntsman, test results show that cooling time is significantly reduced with Avalon AB DI materials reaching de-mould hardness in half the time or better compared to a conventional TPU.
The new line was developed following discussions with a major footwear component supplier, who wanted to increase productivity when moulding footwear soles such as soccer plates. Use of Avalon AB DI increased the production capacity of the injection moulding machines while maintaining the properties of the TPU.
Meanwhile, Avalon AB DI is also suitable for use in other injection moulding applications including the production of thick wall technical parts.
