By GlobalDataLeading sports shoe manufacturers Nike and Reebok have decided not to buy leather from India, officials of animal rights pressure group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have claimed. Other shoe companies including Peru-based Foresta International and US-based Cole Haan have also pledged not to buy leather from India after PETA's claims that the $2.5 billion Indian leather industry had engaged in "unlawful" slaughter and transport of animals.
