Japanese textile maker Komatsu Seiren Co has announced the creation of a stretch knit fabric it claims is both breathable and windproof.
Made from a porous material film of special urethane resin, the new material has been dubbed “Shut Air V” and will be launched in September.
Sportswear makers are the primary targets, and sales targets are 300,000 metres for the first year, or JPY2bn (US$24m) in sales. After three years the company hopes to shift 100m metres or JPY6bn yen in sales. Komatsu says the new material has “excellent” stretch characteristics, including stretch recovery, wash durability, and breathablity.
