JAPAN: Pakistan Gains Access To Japan’s Cotton Market
With the removal of the anti-dumping duty by Japan on cotton yarn, Pakistan is reported to regain $700 million, Textile Web reported yesterday. Japan's 9.9 per cent duty on the Pakistani cotton yarn of 20s and 21s, part of the anti-dumping duty set in 1995 for five years, lapsed on August 5, 2000. Pakistani cotton yarn is now free to enter the lost Japanese market. At the time of imposition of anti-dumping duty, Japan was consuming 66 per cent Pakistani cotton yarn, but it dropped to 53 per cent last year.
