MALAWI: Textile Giant DWS Shuts Plant, 2,000 Jobs Axed
More than 2,000 workers are to lose their jobs with the closure of Malawi’s largest textile factory after privatisation plans failed. Commerce and Industry Minister Peter Kaleso said the government had decided to stop giving subsidies to the David Whitehead and Sons (DWS) factory even though textile exports have surged thanks to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
