Product designers from around the world will be able to access molecular tagging technology from Applied DNA Sciences (APDN) after its SigNature platform was added to Material ConneXion’s online library of innovative materials.

Applied DNA’s molecular tagging platform is used to authenticate products throughout the global supply chain and to ensure they are truthfully labelled.

Material ConneXion helps companies leverage material innovation to create better products and experiences, material libraries in Bangkok, Thailand; Bilbao, Spain; Daegu, South Korea; Milan, Italy; Skövde, Sweden; Tokyo, Japan; and New York City.

Visitors to the library’s branches throughout the world will be able to access a tabula of the technology, which will be accessible through the Material ConneXion online directory database.

“New sciences and technologies are evaluated and selected for inclusion based on their unique offerings, cutting-edge innovation and outstanding performance,” explains Kerrie Rosenheck, material specialist with Material ConneXion.

SigNature molecular tagging in textile tracking and authentication will be an “important part” of the solutions for tackling product claims and authenticity challenges.

The SigNatureT and FiberTyping tools are specifically targeted to textiles and apparel. SigNature T, for example, offers a means for proving the origin of cotton, and it has already been used to tag over 150m pounds of US-grown cotton.
